Steps to take for your children:
 

Born in an European country, Switzerland or the European Economic Area


For children born in an European country, Switzerland or the European Economic Area (EEA), no action is required.

Children born outside the European Union


 

Before leaving for France

Children born in non-exempt countries are subject to visa requirements in order to enter France (see list of relevant countries). In this case, they will require an "Talent Family" long-stay visa D.

To obtain this visa, you must apply at least two months before your children's departure at the French consulate closest to their place of residence. This request can be made at the same time as your own visa application if necessary.

Please note: The law n° 2024-42 in force since January 26, 2024, changes the qualification « passeport talent” into “talent”.

At arrival in France

Once in France, you need to apply for a document de circulation pour étrangers mineurs (DCEM) for children under 18 years following this procedure. You can make the request for a DCEM online (list of required documents).

For the scientist's spouse


Steps to take for your spouse:
 

Comes from an EU country

Your spouse will have no administrative requirements if he or she comes from a country within the European Union, Switzerland or the European Economic Area, and will be able to work in France without a specific permit.
 

Comes from a third-party country
Before departure for France


If your spouse is from a non-member country and is not exempt, they will be subject to visa requirements (see list of relevant countries).

If you are French or a citizen of an EU country and your spouse is not, they will need to request a visa for a spouse/family member of a French national or a spouse/family member of an EU citizen before joining you in France.

If you are from a third party county and have the status of a passport talent researcher, you spouse will need a "Talent Famille" long stay visa D to enter France. If your spouse is Algerian and you have the status "Scientfique", they will need to apply for a long stay visa D "conjoint de Scientifique" to be able to join you in France

To obtain this visa, your spouse must apply at least two months before his/her departure at the French consulate closest to his/her place of residence. This request can be made at the same time as your visa application if necessary.

At arrival in France


The Welcome Center can assist your spouse with this procedure. We also invite your spouse to register with our Euraxess database as a spouse of a researcher hosted by UCA, which will allow us to assist them more easily.

If you are a EU citizen, your spouse needs to request a residence card for a spouse/family member of an EU citizen at their arrival in France. This request needs to be made online on the ANEF website

If you are a French citizen, your spouse needs to request a residence card for a spouse/family member of French citizen at their arrival in France. This request needs to be made online on the ANEF website


If you are from a third party country and have the talent researcher status, your spouse will receive a Visa labelled “Talent Famille” ( L313-21 or L421-22). The Visa will indicate if your spouse needs to validate his/her visa or request a residence card.


The validation of the long stay  "Talent Famille" Visa is done online.

The fiscal stamps in the amount of 200€ to validate the "Talent Famille" long stay Visa can be purchased on the same website.

How to request a talent family residence card?

Generally, Visas issued to spouses will be of shorter duration than those of the scientists. The Visa "Talent Famille" issued to the spouse might inidicate that the spouse has to apply for a “Talent Famille” residence, visa label: L 313-21 or L421-22, C. SEJ. A SOLLIC. (carte de séjour à solliciter = need to request a residence card). The request should be made at least two month before the visa expires, ideally at their arrival in France. The prefecture might apply a late fee.

The requests for a talent family card need to be made online on the ANEF website according to this procedure.

Documents to provide

It is no longer necessary to make an appointment at the prefecture or to go there in person to deposit your request. After making the request online, you can at any time consult the progess of your request on your online account, reply to any requests for additional documents and be informed on any decisions regarding your request.

It usually takes around 3 months to obtain the resident card. The Préfecture will inform you by text message or email, when the resident card is ready. Your spouse will then need to retrieve the "Passeport Talent Famille" card in person at the Préfecture des Alpes Maritimes and pay a tax of 225 € (in fiscal stamps to be purchased online; new rates as of January 1st, 2020). You will also have to be present with your spouse, bring the original and a copy of your own passport, Visa and host convention.

How to request a Residence Certificate for an Algerian spouse?

Finally, Algerian spouses need an Algerian Residence Certificate (Certificat de Résidence Algérien Vie Privée et Familiale" instead the “Talent Famille”. The Requests for a "Vie Privée et Familiale" residence card can for the moment not yet be made online. Please contact the Welcome Center for the details on how to send the request by regular mail.

Documents required to obtain a certificate of residence for your Algerian spouse

It usually takes around 3 months to obtain the resident card. The Préfecture will inform you by text message or email, when the resident card is ready. Your spouse will then need to retrieve the "Certificat de Résidence Algérien - Vie Privée et Familiale" card in person at the Préfecture des Alpes Maritimes. The first  "Certificat de Résidence Algérien - Vie Privée et Familiale" card is free of charge. You will also have to be present with your spouse, bring the original and a copy of your own passport, Visa and host convention.

Renewal of the residence permit

Two to four months before the expiry of the spouse’s current residence card talent famille, he/she must apply to renew the permit. The Welcome Center can assist your spouse with this procedure.

The requests for the renewal of a "Vie Privée et Familiale" residence card of the spouse of a French national or spouse of a EU citizen need to be made online on the ANEF website .

Documents to provide to renew the talent family card

Algérien spouses: The renewal of the residence certificate "Vie Privée et Familiale" can for the moment not yet be made online. Please contact the Welcome Center for the details on how to send the request by regular mail.

Documents required to renew a certificate of residence for your Algerian spouse

Your spouse will need to pay a tax of 225 € (in fiscal stamps to be purchased online; new rates as of January 1st, 2020) for the renewal of the "Talent Famille", "Vie Privée et Familiale" card or the Residence Certificate "Vie Privée et Familiale".

It usually takes around 3 months to obtain the resident card. The Préfecture will inform you by text message or email, when the resident card is ready. Your spouse will then need to retrieve the "Passeport Talent Famille", "Vie Privée et Familiale" card or the Residence Certificate "Vie Privée et Familiale" in person at the Préfecture of the departement they live in. You will also have to be present with your spouse, bring the original and a copy of your own passport, Visa and host convention.

You must accompagny your spouse to all appointments/summons relating to the intial application or renewal of the residence permit.
