Agile, créative and daring: Université Côte d'Azur anticipates its development in the 21st century

Université Côte d'Azur was created and established because several research and higher education establishments in the Côte d'Azur were convinced that we had all the strengths required to join the national and international elite, provided that we go faster, further, and sometimes taking a different path, to second guess others in building our modernity.  

In order to succeed in this leap forward into the future, Université Côte d'Azur has combined the region’s key academic potential and built one of France's top 10 research-intensive universities, now ranked in the ‘Top 3%’ of the world's academic elite.

Université Côte d'Azur is therefore becoming one of the major players in a region whose international reputation is and always has been exceptional. It crystallizes Côte d'Azur's ambition to be as well known for its academic potential as its long-established tourism and cultural reputation or for its technological prowess as Europe's largest science park. 

The strategy developed by Université Côte d’Azur is based on 4 key areas 

  1. Ensuring that its research excellence is the keystone of the whole edifice  by reorganizing its scientific potential through an inter-subject prism and the vital requirement for innovation,
  2. Positioning itself as one of the major architects of the Côte d'Azur's growth model  by participating directly in its ongoing development at the strategic level, through developing strong trusting ties to the political and economic ecosystem and through an enhanced capacity for operational proposals,
  3. Building an ambitious, visible and attractive educational offering  derived directly from the scientific excellence of our research teams, meeting the expectations of both students and staff, but also the high added-value skills in emerging sectors,
  4. Modernize and energize university life life by strengthening support for the university’s voluntary network, broadening our social and ecological commitment, raising awareness of entrepreneurship, significantly increasing the cultural and sporting activities, and enhancing our heritage and promoting initiatives which allow people in the highly diverse academic community of Université Côte d'Azur, to engage and thrive.

3 types of coordination for a university of excellence

The aim of setting up Université Côte d’Azur in the heart of the region is to develop a university of excellence in the fields of research, education and innovation so that it becomes a driving force in its region. Université Côte d'Azur therefore promotes three types of coordination:

  • academic coordination  between the major research and higher education establishments, in order to develop the link between education-research and increase its international influence;
  • institutional coordination with the major public bodies, in order to ensure that any funding is associated with a clear strategy;
  • socio-economic coordination with all the public and private stakeholders, particularly in the Côte d'Azur, in order to jointly curate the identity of the site.

Université Côte d'Azur's value

The roles entrusted to the university by the French Education Code can only be carried out in a new establishment by reviewing the core values that govern this type of institution:

  • Université Côte d’Azur is a place where academic freedom of expression is guaranteed. Research professors, research scientists, and lecturers carry out their teaching and research work by respecting their status and enjoying the independence and freedom so essential for academic thought and creation.
  • Université Côte d’Azur is committed to an ethical policy in every field in which it is involved.
  • Université Côte d’Azur ensures that there is democratic representation within its bodies. For example, in the Board of Directors of Université Côte d'Azur, the proportion of seats filled through direct election will be higher than the number recommended by the charter. Every category of staff in the university community will be represented by elected officials.
  • Université Côte d’Azur aims to be an inclusive university that respects diversity, promotes gender equality, freedom from discrimination, well-being in the workplace and defends secularism and fundamental rights and freedoms. It is also committed to instigating corporate social and environmental responsibility. 
  • Université Côte d’Azur guarantees the right to academic, trade union and political freedoms for its staff and the student community.
