International Scientific Visibility

Our mission

The Office of International Scientific Visibility (OISV) was established in 2016 after Université Côte d’Azur was awarded the label Initiative of Excellence (IdEx), with a mission to enhance the university’s global profile and ranking. After the creation of the Steering and Performance Department (D2P), the OISV’s main focus was to provide editing and translation services for researchers’ publications and grant applications, while also supporting the university’s management in various capacities.

In 2024, the OISV underwent a significant organizational change, transitioning to the research program of IdEx. In addition to its language services, the expanded mission is to help researchers strengthen their editorial skills and strategically refine their manuscripts and grant proposals, aiming to target high-impact journals and further improve success rates in securing national and international funding.

Our activities

  1. We provide guidance on publication strategy for Principal Investigators and their teams, including support for grant proposals as well as training for researchers at different levels, including workshops, seminars and masterclasses.
  2. We offer an English editing and translation service for the entire Université Côte d'Azur research community, to maximize the number and quality of publications appearing in international research journals and grant proposals with a view of eliminating potential language-related limitations.
  3. We work with the Université Côte d'Azur governance, Academies, graduate schools, research laboratories and departments to produce publications that promote Université Côte d'Azur research activities to the general public and specialist audiences and, in particular, support Open Science and FAIR principles. We also assist the IdEx team with its research, innovation, international and educational initiatives.
  4. We work with Université Côte d'Azur departments and governing bodies to improve the research excellence and international visibility of the university.

Our team

Vincent Dusastre PhD (Head - Natural Sciences)
Vincent Dusastre earned his first degree in physical chemistry from Université Paul Sabatier (Toulouse), followed by a DEA/MSc Erasmus in materials science from University of Kent. His research interests during his PhD from University College London and postdoctoral fellowships at Imperial College were in the design and investigation of oxide materials for gas-sensing and fuel cell applications.

He joined Nature in 1999 as an Editor in charge of materials science and launched Nature Materials in 2002, the first Nature publication in the physical sciences. His editorial career allowed him to broaden his scientific knowledge, stay in close contact with the research community and influence the scientific, editorial, and publishing strategy of Nature. As the Chief Editor of Nature Materials, he was responsible for the multidisciplinary vision and performance of the journal while managing an international editorial team covering all aspects of materials research. On top of his outreaching activities, he was also in charge of submissions and contributions in the areas of electrochemistry and materials for renewable energy.

As well as leading and overseeing the ongoing editorial and outreaching activities of the Office of International Scientific Visibility, Vincent will interact closely with the research community of Université Côte d’Azur to enhance its international scientific profile and visibility. Building on his vast editorial experience, his role is to help Université Côte d'Azur researchers improve the quality and impact of their research by advising on their publication strategy and aiming to publish in highly selective international journals. Other activities will involve organizing scientific and editorial workshops, seminars and masterclasses on scientific writing, editing, and communication practices to graduate and postgraduate students and researchers.
