Context

Dentex dentex is a species of European coastal fish and emblematic of the Mediterranean which is widely exploited by recreational and professional fishing. This species therefore corresponds to a “Vulnerable” status on the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) red list since 2014. The Stella Mare platform (Université de Corse, CNRS) has, for several years, been able to acquire a great deal of knowledge about its ecology (eg habitat, life history trait), its exploitation, its genetic structure, and has also managed to control the production of juveniles in hatcheries with the aim of restoring natural populations.

Objectives

The objective of the project is to study, in experimental basins, the individual performances of juveniles of Dentex dentex produced in hatcheries in order to estimate (1) the stage of development for which these juveniles have sufficient capacity to evolve in the environment. natural and (2) the breeding conditions conducive to natural behavior (eg predation, flight, concealment). This work will require physiological (eg swimming performance) and behavioral studies (eg leak response test, labyrinth, new prey test), as well as analyzing data by 2D video tracking ( eg travel speed, travel time, acceleration).
