Held on 28 May 2026 at IMREDD, the Academy 3 thematic day on "Energy Challenges" brought together 74 participants—students, researchers, and Université Côte d'Azur staff—for a collective exploration of today's energy issues.
Beyond the scientific presentations, the event was, above all, an opportunity to bring different perspectives to bear on complex challenges, thanks to the wide range of profiles and disciplines represented:
- AI, Infrastructure & Energy — Guillaume Urvoy-Keller, Professor and Sustainable Development & Social Responsibility (SD&SR) representative at the Laboratoire d'Informatique, Signaux, et Systèmes de Sophia Antipolis (I3S)
- Building Energy — Erwin Franquet, Vice-President for Environmental and Societal Transitions at Université Côte d'Azur and Director of the Polytech'lab laboratory
- Energy Resources — Christophe Poinssot, Deputy Director General of BRGM and Member of the Académie des Technologies
- Lithium Extraction in France: An Anthropological Perspective — Violeta Ramirez, Doctor of Anthropology and documentary filmmaker, Laboratoire Aménagement Économie Transports (LAET, ENTPE)
- Nuclear Reactors: Where Do We Stand? — Patrick Blaise, Scientific Expert, FRAMATOME
- Off-Grid Energy in Low- and Middle-Income Countries — Enoch Ntsiful, PhD candidate in Economics, Sustainability Hub, University of Barcelona
The discussions held throughout the day enabled researchers from sometimes very different scientific fields to identify shared interests and compare approaches. These exchanges also opened the door to future interdisciplinary collaborations. The event notably marked the beginning of a closer relationship with the University of Barcelona's Sustainability Hub, highlighted by the participation of an invited speaker from that institution. Through its cross-cutting and unifying nature, the event helped strengthen collaborative dynamics around energy challenges at both the local and international levels.
