Methods and tools for scientific writing

Description 

This course is offered by the MSc Data Science & AI

This class is dedicated to methods and tools for supporting technical and scientific writing. By following this class, students are expected to become capable writers using common tools used for professional scientific publications.

The class will cover the following contents:
  • Methods and tools for taking notes and structuring ideas in a technical and scientific paper;
  • Methods and tools for organizing references and properly cite them along the text;
  • Methods and tools for structuring files and advanced contents (including structured text, mathematical formulas, tables, graphics and images) using Latex;
  • Guidelines for applying Latex templates provided by publishers;
  • Creating custom markdown and templates;
  • Understanding publications processes;
  • Ethical aspects of scientific publication (including tools for checking plagiarism and data sources).
Students are expected to apply the tools and methods in a practical project that will help them to produce a technical/scientific work and understand the publication process.
