Pterois miles
Lionfish
Pterois miles(Bennett,1828)
Pterois miles (Bennett, 1828) is commonly called common "lionfish" . This name comes from its large pectoral fins, making it look like a lion's mane. Its slow movements also gives it a majestic look of "air flotation". The lion fish is a tropical predatory species native of the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. It is mainly nocturnal, and prefer to hide in holes and interstices during the day. It is a poisonous fish but it is not aggressive. The venom is present in the hollow spines of its dorsal, pelvic and pectoral fins, delivering a deadly poison to small animals and causing severe pain to humans (Chartrer & Chartrer, 2021).
