Siganus luridus
Dusky spinefoot
Siganus luridus (Rüppell, 1829).
Siganus luridus (Rüppell, 1829). Arrived via the Suez Canal, the Dusky spinefoot is a common species in the eastern Mediterranean Sea where it is now widely caught and eaten. With its pleasant-tasting white flesh and low price, it has become a popular dish among consumers in this region. In the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea, sightings of Dusky spinefoot rabbitfish remain rare but their populations are very likely to increase in the future. It is therefore important to make this fish known to local fishermen and chefs.
