For over a month and a half, second-year MSc RISKS students have been working hard on their Landslides Module : take a look at one of their field trips to Caire Gros, near Saint Dalmas de Valdeblore in southern France's Mercantour Park.
In the second year of their course, MSc Environmental hazards and risks management students start with the Landslides module : more than 40 hours of theory, case studies and practical work in the field to understand the basic mechanisms of landslides, their causes and their consequences for the areas impacted.
Students use their skills in data modelling and geographical analysis applied to landslide situations.
The Alpes-Maritimes region contains several examples of landslides, such as the Caire Gros landslide near Saint Dalmas de Valdeblore in southern France's Mercantour Park.
The students went to the site by bus and then hiked to the landslide at altitude : they were able to study the extent of the landslide and see a data collection station set up on site!

Now, the Landslide module is almost finished and the Flood module is starting. Other field trips are planned, in particular to places that were flooded in the region during storm Alex... To be continued!
