Discovering Saint-Martin-Vésubie post Alex storm!
This year’s annual 3 days field trip for the MSc environmental hazards and risks management took students to the heart of one of the most affected regions by Storm Alex: the village of Saint-Martin-Vésubie, just an hour away from Nice. This unforgettable experience was a hands-on opportunity to witness the aftermath of a natural disaster and learn directly from the field, offering invaluable insights for future risk management professionals!
(Saint-Martin-Vésubie, once a picturesque mountain village, was devastated by the 2020 storm, which caused significant flooding, landslides, and infrastructural damage)
The field trip allowed our students to explore the area, assess the ongoing recovery efforts, and discuss the critical role of risk management in mitigating such events. But it also aimed to foster connections among the students. Staying in a local guesthouse in the evenings provided a unique opportunity for everyone to bond, share experiences, and get to know each other better!
The shared moments of hiking and outdoor adventure added an extra dimension to the trip, helping to strengthen the link between new and former students!
It was an experience has left the RISKS team with lasting memories of a wonderful adventure shared with new friends!
