Since October 2023, Dr. Gbago Laurent ONIVOGUI has been the Deputy General Director of Research at the Institute of Applied Biology of Guinea (IRBAG). IRBAG contributes to the prevention and treatment of diseases, particularly infectious diseases, through fundamental, operational, and translational research, training, and public health projects in Guinea. It works on original subjects, even unique in Guinea, such as the treatment of envenomation. The research topics covered are very varied, including diarrheal diseases, hospital infections, intestinal parasites, enteroviruses, hepatitis, reservoirs/vectors, and herpetology, and appear numerous in relation to the activity carried out. It offers Master's and PhD courses in biomedical sciences, as well as practical training for laboratory technicians and students from higher education establishments.
From 2022 to 2023, Dr. Gbago Laurent ONIVOGUI was the Vice-Rector in charge of research at the University Général Lansana Conté de Sonfonia Conakry. He made significant contributions to the world of research and innovation, notably through his expertise and knowledge of the research and innovation (R&I) system of Guinea. Through his scientific publications and awards, he now rightfully holds his current position as Vice-Rector in charge of research at the General Lansana CONTE University of Sonfonia Conakry. Here, he works to improve the quality of research results and their valorization on an international scale.
Following his MSc in Biobanks and Complex Data Management, Dr. Gbago Laurent ONIVOGUI piloted the project for the creation and development of the Biobank, which is a critical resource for the collection, storage, and management of biological samples. He also implemented ethical and regulatory approaches to ensure the responsible use of these samples within the framework of the R&I strategy and policy in Guinea and at the level of the International Network of Pasteur Institutes (RIIP).
In addition to his work in public health, Dr. Gbago Laurent ONIVOGUI has played a critical role in the response to COVID-19. As the coordinator of the R&I technical team in public health, he worked tirelessly to develop strategies and approaches to combat the pandemic.
Dr. Gbago Laurent ONIVOGUI's dedication to research and innovation extends beyond his own work. He is currently working to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation with national and international higher education and research institutions. He is also the author of several scientific publications in the field of research and development (R&D) of medicinal and food products. He is a testament to the value of pursuing an MSc in Biobanks and Complex Data Management. His success and achievements demonstrate the important role that this field plays in the advancement of research and innovation, and the potential for individuals to make a significant impact on the world.
