Serena is a senior researcher in computer science at the CNRS and pursue her research at the I3S laboratory where she is a member of the joint Inria-CNRS-UCA Wimmics team.
Her research area is Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a current focus on computational argumentation. This includes both reasoning on computational models of argument and mining natural arguments from text (argument mining). She is particularly interested in multidisciplinary applications of argumentation in areas such as the legal domain, medical texts, political debates, and social networks.
In November 2021, she was awarded the Prix Inria – Académie des sciences jeunes chercheurs et jeunes chercheuses.
Since July 2019, she has held a Chair in Artificial Intelligence at [institution] on “Artificial Argumentation for Humans.” In January 2021, she became the Deputy Scientific Director of the 3IA Côte d'Azur Institute.
Since December 2019, she has been a member of the National Pilot Committee for Digital Ethics, and since October 2020, she has been a member of the Scientific and Ethical Committee of the Cancer Data Platform of the Institut National du Cancer.
She is part of the Steering Committee of Computational Models of Arguments (COMMA), the Foundation for Legal Knowledge Based Systems (JURIX), and the European Conference on Argumentation (ECA). Since September 2021, she has been a member of the IAAIL executive committee for the term 2022-2023
