Data sciences
Complementing the activities of the Center of Modeling, Simulations, and Interactions (SalaryI), this program aims to make the Côte d’Azur an internationally recognized center in data sciences.
This choice is supported by a deliberate strategy of building capacity in this area, both in terms of research and education.
This involves developing in parallel a high-level fundamental approach based on expertise in mathematics, algorithms, modeling, data mining, deep learning, etc. as well as a professional approach focused on skills directly applicable to a particular field. Over time, such professional knowledge will allow the topic of “data sciences” to be addressed in biology/medicine, earth and space sciences, and human and social sciences.
The first call for proposals was targeted towards biology and medicine.
Program objectives:
- In conjunction with the SalaryI, develop an internationally renowned center of expertise in data sciences.
- Structure this topic around three aspects: (i) professional skills to help researchers and respond to company needs, (ii) expertise in fundamental and theoretical research to develop new results and open innovative pathways, (iii) quality offerings for initial and continuing education.
- Develop complex databases, which are useful for both local and external researchers and will serve as an applied area for SalaryI Data Scientists.
- Especially, for 2017,
- Support the development of medical research on various health problems using a transdisciplinary approach structured around multi-level and multi-modal databases.
- Generate modeling and simulation tools adapted to exploit these databases in close cooperation with doctors and biologists; improve patient treatment and follow-up; use the data to both promote prevention and produce recommendations.
