Health insurance
The CPAM (Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie) is the organisation from which you can apply for social security benefits.
If you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a certificate of entitlement to healthcare, you do not need to register with the French social security.
Non-European students must register online. This affiliation is free but mandatory.
This first affiliation covers the costs of basic health insurance from the date of registration (shown on the school certificate): even if you do not yet have your “Carte Vitale” (French health care card), you can be reimbursed retroactively.

FAQ
- How do I make an appointment with a doctor?
-
Through the website Doctolib, it allows you to make an appointment with a doctor.
There is also the possibility of benefiting from an appointment with general practitioner for a consultation at one of the campuses at Université Côte-d'Azur.
- What is the cost of medical care?
-
The general practitioner charges €26.5 for the visit. The CPAM will reimburse 70% of this amount (= €17.55).
There are two types of doctors: Sector 1 & Sector 2. Check the CPAM website for doctors in Sector 1 (at no extra cost).
To benefit from optimal reimbursement of health costs, it is also possible to subscribe to a mutual insurance company, in addition to the CPAM.
- Is it mandatory to have complementary health insurance?
-
No, it is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended to subscribe to a complementary health insurance (mutuelle), in addition to the CPAM.
Université Côte d'Azur does not have compulsory insurance, but all students must take the necessary steps to be covered in terms of health during their studies at the university.
Don't hesitate to compare different mutual insurance companies or ask for a quote to find the one that suits you best.
