Emilie Demoinet
Emilie Demoinet holds a PhD in Biology and serves as the Sustainability Officer at Université Côte d’Azur. During her research activities at McGill University in Canada and later at the Institut de Biologie Valrose until 2017, she analyzed the long-term effects of early-life stress in C. elegans and the role of epigenetic mechanisms. It was during this period that she became acutely aware of the waste problem in laboratories.
This observation led her to design and propose a transdisciplinary project in collaboration with the University, CNRS, and INSERM, aimed at changing researcher behavior by reducing and repurposing laboratory waste.
In 2018, she became responsible for the Eco-Responsibility Mission at Université Côte d’Azur. The mission seeks to engage the university community, foster collective reflection, and implement concrete actions to improve quality of life at work while promoting sustainable and responsible research and education. Initiatives under her leadership include:
-
Awareness campaigns on zero waste, climate change issues, and slow mobility.
-
Circular projects combined with training programs, such as campus composting, a permaculture-inspired forest garden, repair cafés, low-tech projects, and circular economy initiatives, including the local reuse of materials like wood and plastics (e.g., old outdoor advertising tarps).
