Université Côte d'Azur's ODD 6
Guaranteeing access to drinking water and sanitation for all, and ensuring sustainable management of water resources, is the aim of MDG 6 (Sustainable Development Goal). Located on the Mediterranean coast, the Nice region is particularly concerned by water-related issues. Université Côte d'Azur is aware of these issues, and is carrying out a number of research projects and actions to preserve this essential resource. The different facets of ODD 6 highlight the university's contributions to this global challenge.
What is SDG 6? Better understanding
The aim of MDG 6 is to guarantee universal access to water and sanitation, and to ensure the sustainable management of water resources.
In other words, the goal is for every person on the planet to have access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. This also means managing water resources sustainably, taking into account the needs of future generations and protecting aquatic ecosystems.
Institutional commitment to SDG 6
- Scientific research: By studying local water resources, developing solutions to improve water quality and seeking sustainable alternatives to water use.
- Training future players: By offering specialized training courses in environmental management and sustainable development, to train tomorrow's professionals.
- Raising awareness: By organizing events, conferences and workshops to inform the general public about water issues and encourage more responsible behavior.
- Innovation: By supporting student projects and start-ups developing innovative solutions for sustainable water management.
Dedicated structures
EUR SPECTRUM: The aim of the École Universitaire de Recherche (EUR) SPECTRUM is to train top-level scientists and engineers (from Bac +5 to Bac +8) through a multidisciplinary curriculum encompassing 6 scientific fields: mathematics, physics, astrophysics, earth sciences, chemistry and engineering. With 12 courses in 6 masters programs, SPECTRUM emphasizes interdisciplinarity and enables students to personalize their training. The courses, taught by researchers from 8 research laboratories, combine theory and practical applications, in close collaboration with industrial partners. Thanks to this approach, EUR has generated 35 million euros in funding.
Sustainable Development Department: The Sustainable Development Department of the Université Côte d'Azur is responsible for implementing strategies aimed at integrating sustainability principles and the SDGs into all university activities. It works on projects related to resource management, raising student awareness and improving environmental practices. This department plays a key role in promoting a sustainable culture within the university community.
Academy 3: Space, Environment, Risk and Resilience. Community: 300 researchers in 17 research laboratories. The future of our planet is one of today's greatest concerns. Many factors, both natural and man-made, are currently threatening our environment, our societies, our planet and even space. The main objectives of Academy 3 are to explore these natural and man-made hazards and risks. This involves understanding the processes, diversity, interconnections and socio-environmental impacts of these hazards and risks, in order to help develop actions that guarantee the sustainable well-being of our societies, our environment and our planet.
Polytech Université Côte d'Azur: Polytech Nice Sophia, the polytechnic engineering school of the Université Côte d'Azur and a member of the Polytech network, welcomes 1,300 students and trains 300 graduates each year. It also offers work-study programs for 300 apprentices, helping them to enter the professional world. The school benefits from the expertise of 110 teacher-researchers and 250 lecturers from the business world, enriching students' academic experience. With 13 research laboratories, Polytech Nice Sophia is a key player in the field of engineering and innovation.
