Université Côte d'Azur's ODD 11
SDG 11 (Sustainable Development Goal) aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Located on the shores of the Mediterranean, the city of Nice and the surrounding region face a number of challenges related to urbanization. Université Côte d'Azur, aware of these challenges, is conducting a number of research projects and actions to help build more sustainable and humane cities. The different facets of ODD 11 highlight the university's contributions to more responsible urban development.
What is ODD 11? Better understanding
SDG 11 aims to ensure that our cities and communities are inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable places. It's about building cities that offer equal opportunities to all, while reducing their environmental impact. SDG 11 encourages us to rethink the way we design and manage our urban spaces, by promoting public transport, developing green infrastructure, improving access to basic services such as water and sanitation, and reducing pollution. This goal recognizes that the majority of the world's population now lives in cities, and that the way we build these cities will have a significant impact on our future.
Institutional commitment to SDG 11
Université Côte d'Azur is actively committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, and in particular SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities. The university stands out for its research on themes related to sustainability and intelligent territories.
The university also promotes public access to its cultural resources, notably by opening its libraries, museums and green spaces to the public. Artistic events, such as concerts, are regularly organized, contributing to the cultural life of the community. In addition, the university devotes a significant proportion of its budget to art and heritage, reinforcing its role as a cultural institution.
In terms of sustainable practices, the university promotes environmentally-friendly modes of transport and encourages teleworking.
Finally, as part of the government's Plan France Relance, Université Côte d'Azur received €54 million in funding in December 2020, to renovate its main campuses and improve the environmental and energy performance of its assets. Université Côte d'Azur's approach has enabled 8 of its campuses, notably the oldest, to make a quantum leap in terms of thermal comfort and energy savings. This ambitious building renovation and modernization program has enabled the most energy-hungry campuses to make an energy transition, thanks to a building renovation program that takes into account the comfort of occupants and the improvement of the site's image.
