To mark United Nations World Food Day 2026, more than 70 students representing 10 different nationalities gathered at IMREDD, for A Piece of Cake, an event exploring intercultural competence, systems thinking, and the connections between food, climate change and environmental risks.
Students from four MSc programmes — MSc RISKS, MSc Engineers for Smart Cities, MSc BOOST – Biocontrol Solutions for Plant Health, and MSc Biobanks & Complex Data Management — came together to exchange perspectives and learn from one another.
Through games and collaborative group activities, participants explored different cultural perspectives on food and discussed shared challenges. Despite their diverse backgrounds and areas of study, students discovered common concerns and points of connection. Bringing together students from programmes focused on different disciplines also encouraged open-mindedness, broadened perspectives and fostered a more interdisciplinary approach to complex global challenges.
The event received the “En Route pour la COP Climat” label, an initiative supported by the International and Europe programme of Université Côte d’Azur’s Initiative of Excellence (IdEx), reflecting the university’s commitment to climate action and international engagement.
A Piece of Cake demonstrated how informal, interactive activities can create meaningful opportunities for intercultural dialogue, collaboration and shared learning.
