Université Côte d'Azur's ODD 5

Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls is the goal of MDG 5. Université Côte d'Azur, aware of gender issues, is working to promote equality between women and men in all areas. From research to teaching and student life, our university is implementing numerous initiatives to combat gender stereotypes and promote the emancipation of women. How is Université Côte d'Azur helping to build a more egalitarian society?

What is SDG 5? Better understanding

MDG 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

This means putting an end to all forms of discrimination against women and girls, whether in public or private life. It means giving them the same rights and opportunities as men, in all areas of life: education, employment, health, politics and so on.

Why is gender equality so important? It's not just a question of justice, it's a prerequisite for sustainable development. When women are enabled to reach their full potential, society as a whole benefits.

Institutional commitment to ODD5

As an institution of higher education, Université Côte d'Azur is at the forefront of this transformation. It can count on its teaching staff, researchers and numerous partnerships to :
  • Produce knowledge: By conducting research into gender inequalities, analyzing representations and stereotypes, and developing tools to measure progress.
  • Train future agents of change: By offering training courses that raise awareness of gender equality issues and develop the skills needed to act in favor of equality.
  • Supporting women's entrepreneurship: By helping women set up their own businesses and encouraging the emergence of more inclusive economic models.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion: By implementing fair recruitment and promotion policies and fostering a working environment that respects all, for example through training courses for university staff (sexism in the workplace, the effects of gender stereotypes, understanding sexist and sexual violence in the ESR....).

Dedicated structures

Women Health Chair: The Women's Health Chair at Université Côte d'Azur focuses on research and awareness-raising on women's health issues. It promotes studies and projects aimed at improving women's health, raising public awareness and influencing health policies. The Chair collaborates with academic and social actors to address these issues in an interdisciplinary way.

Académie 5: Université Côte d'Azur's Académie 5 "Homme, Idées et Milieux" brings together research units in the humanities and social sciences, as well as seven art schools and SKEMA Business School. Its aim is to promote interdisciplinary projects. From 2016 to 2019, four main themes have emerged: Digital Humanities, Social Science Methodology, Arts and Sciences, Cognition, and Territory and Environment. The Academy has also supported the creation of the NeuroMod Institute and funded projects linking the environment and social sciences, such as the Observatoire de la transition écologique et citoyenne de la Côte d'Azur (OTECCA). For 2020-2024, it is concentrating on four areas of research:
  • 1. Knowledge, ideas, language and society
  • 2. Change in interaction with the environment
  • 3. Art, creation, science
  • 4. Cross-disciplinary themes
