Université Côte d'Azur's ODD 15

The Mediterranean region, with its unique and fragile biodiversity, is particularly concerned by these issues. Université Côte d'Azur, aware of the importance of preserving terrestrial ecosystems, carries out a wide range of research and actions to better understand and protect terrestrial biodiversity. The different facets of ODD 15 highlight the university's contributions to the protection of terrestrial life.

What is ODD 15? Better understanding

SDG 15 aims to preserve and restore the Earth's ecosystems. This ambitious goal recognizes the crucial importance of nature to our survival and well-being. It calls for the sustainable management of forests, mountains and other terrestrial ecosystems, with an emphasis on preserving biodiversity and soils. SDG 15 also aims to combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and protect endangered species. In short, this goal invites us to live in harmony with nature and ensure the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.

Corporate commitment to SDG 15

Biodiversity, our life insurance on Earth, is in peril. In the face of this alarming situation, MDG 15 calls for "preserving and restoring terrestrial ecosystems, by halting deforestation, restoring degraded forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and promoting sustainable development".forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and halting the loss of biodiversity". Université Côte d'Azur, aware of these challenges, is committed to contributing to the preservation and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems.

Located at the heart of a region rich in biodiversity, Université Côte d'Azur conducts cutting-edge research on terrestrial ecosystems, from Mediterranean forests to wetlands and mountain environments. University researchers are studying ecosystem dynamics, the impacts of climate change, biological invasions and solutions for restoring degraded environments. Through this work, Université Côte d'Azur contributes to a better understanding of terrestrial ecosystems, and to the development of effective conservation strategies.

Drawing on its research, the University trains future conservationists and raises public awareness of biodiversity issues.

Dedicated structures

Sustainable Development Department: Université Côte d'Azur's Sustainable Development Department is responsible for implementing strategies aimed at integrating sustainability principles and the SDGs into all the university's activities. It works on projects related to resource management, raising student awareness and improving environmental practices. This department plays a key role in promoting a sustainable culture within the university community.

OTECCA: The Observatoire de la Transition Écologique et Citoyenne Côte d'Azur (OTECCA) is an interface between the academic world and societal players to promote ecological transition in the Alpes-Maritimes region. It carries out Participatory Action Research (PAR) projects and acts both as a territorial Observatory to collect data and as a "Science Boutique" to support local initiatives. OTECCA, founded in 2018, promotes the values of sharing, impact and respect, using collective intelligence tools to co-construct projects with various stakeholders. Officially recognized in 2021, it is organized around a Scientific Council and a Steering Committee.
